The exterior trim of a house usually refers to a combination of architectural design elements that can vary from one style to another. It could be the door frame and shutters of a colonial home, or the accent boards found on Tudor style homes. Those accents and others are all taken into consideration when we are designing elemental packages for a new home or a renovation. Below are some elements that are considered in every design.

• Exterior trim accent boards and keys. These are architectural details used to frame the home much like a picture; or to accentuate each individual vertical plane to add definition. We can add geometric patterns in the case of certain styles.
• Window frame moldings and shutters. Decorative moldings around windows in contrasting complimentary colors accentuate the widows and set them out from the wall siding. Shutters, once used for storm protection, add color and add balance to the home exterior.
• Door frames. The front door is often the focal point of the home. A decorative frame adds interest and draws the eyes as do side lights.
• Gutters and downspouts. Some people do not consider these to be part of exterior trim but a gutter and downspouts in an accent color frame the façade of some homes and defines the bottom roof line.
• Light fixtures. Once again not considered part of the package by many but they are an architectural element, and the proper size, position or color of an exterior light fixture or fixtures can enhance appearance of the exterior.

The above elements are all taken into consideration when our design professionals are working on a new construction project. The same considerations are given if we are working on window and door replacement, a new siding replacement, a roof replacement, or a combination of any, or all, of these. We rely on our main suppliers to provide these accents and trim elements, such as trim board from Mid-America and Azek; windows from Newtown-Slocomb or Andersen; doors and frames from Household Metals, Inc (HMI) and Andersen. We work closely with all our vendors to coordinate the best package for each home on a close and personal level with the homeowner.
